I wanted to use the Tea House to not only serve tea, but also to display and sell my Alpaca fashions I make. Over the last several years I have tried different outlets for selling my fashions. I have found one of the best ways is for customers to be able to see the animals and then the finished products. I knew there were a lot of women out there who were great artists and were working out of their homes. I wanted to feature some of these. By charging a very small commission I am able to display and sell more artists work who wouldn’t normally have a venue. Here are some of the main artists/artisans I feature. When you visit Zelda’s you will find more!

Ravenscrag Alpaca Fashions

Rebecca Toon

Rebecca Toon is a theatrical Costume Designer, working freelance in the city of Calgary. In 2006, she graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a bachelor's degree of Fine Arts, majoring in Costume Design. She is currently working for several theatre companies in the city and is always looking for more ways to broaden her love of the arts as a whole. She is currently working on creating art that has influences of Fashion History, and is working on manipulating that knowledge further.

Her pieces in the tea house are representations of women's fashion from circa 1805 - 1885, combining them with antique hand made lace and crochet work, bringing the pieces a more dimensional and textured look, connecting them with handicrafts of the past.

If you are interested in more unique pieces using fabric, historical studies or costuming, please e-mail Rebecca at rebecca.toon@yahoo.ca.

Sara Trachsel

Having received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama from the University of Lethbridge in 2004, Sara currently works as a theatre technician for the University of Calgary. Her love of theatre has allowed her to develop her strengths behind the scenes as set-painter and stage manager, as well as the occasional role onstage. The theatre is very much a second home.

Sara delights in capturing vibrant and beautiful images in several mediums including paint, photography, and oil pastels. Inspired by photography and 'pop' art, as well as traditional painting styles, she seeks to discover the extraordinary in the ordinary. It is often the most simple things that are the most beautiful, and therefore she finds nature to be an ever-inspiring muse.

At home, she loves spending time with her husband, Tyson, and their dog, Wylie, where they enjoy good music, great food, and entertaining friends and family!

Sara welcomes questions and comments, and has fun creating unique pieces that compliment your style! For viewing her portfolio, please go to http://blueskies.myphotoalbum.com

ALPACA FIBER

Working with Alpaca fiber, whether you are knitting, weaving, or spinning is the ultimate pleasure! I have been knitting and crocheting for almost 50 years and since I started working with alpaca fiber almost 8 years ago I am amazed at the results and how nice it is to work with. Try your hand at it and if you are a spinner you will really enjoy spinning with it.

I have alpaca fibre from fine to 3 ply worsted in all natural colors. This summer I am hoping to do some more dyeing and will then have more colors available. Depending on the time of year we have up to 10 natural colors available including black, grey, dark brown, dark fawn, medium fawn, light fawn, champagne, white, etc.

Alpaca Fibre – 100 gm ball

Black and Cria (baby) - $20.00
All other colors - $15.00

Rovings: $12.00/100 gm.
